Flicks in Five: Michael Giacchino

In its recent incarnations as a J. J. Abrams-directed series of films, composer Michael Giacchino (who also composed scores for 'Up' and 'The Incredibles') cleverly interweaves Jerry Goldsmith's iconic melodies from the original television series, paying tribute to the 50 years of the Star Trek franchise.

Today on Flicks in Five, we'll hear the end credits from Giachhino's 2009 score to 'Star Trek'.

Lynne has been at this radio thing since 1984 when she fell into an historic job at KFAC AM and FM, the commercial classical station in Los Angeles.  She was the first woman staff announcer in the station's history, and it was such big news back then, it made the LA newspapers and national radio publications.  She is thrilled women in radio is no longer newsworthy.

On this week's Flicks in Five, Lynne Warfel looks at the work of Michael Giacchino. She will share some of his score to 2009's 'Star Trek', which cleverly interweaves elements of Jerry Goldsmith's melodies from the original TV series score from the 1960s.
