Tell us about the piece you have submitted to Minnesota Varsity.
When looking for inspiration for my Minnesota Varsity composition I took a lot of walks at night. During these walks I noticed the chorus of the various cicadas, grasshoppers and other bugs. I started recording the soundscape I found through these walks. I then listened back to these recordings and searched for rhythms and musical motifs to incorporate into my own work. I was inspired by the excitement of the night but also the calming and peaceful music that the bugs created. The title is a Spanish word that translates to "the period between midnight and sunrise." I imagine my piece taking place during this period; moving towards the rising of the sun.
