Minnesota Varsity: Where are They Now? - The Drevlows

Where Are They Now? spotlights Minnesota Varsity Featured and Showcase Artists from 2011 to 2015.

The Drevlow Brothers — Brock, Brayden, and Brett — from Thief River Falls, Minn., have each been a Minnesota Varsity Featured Artist, respectively in 2014, 2013, and 2011. They recently got in touch with Classical MPR's Christine Sweet to share their recent news.

Brock Drevlow, 2014 Featured Artist, Double Bass

Age: 17

Homewtown: Thief River Falls, Minn.

Attends: Lincoln High School, Thief River Falls, Minn. I am a senior at home school while playing bass with the Lincoln High School orchestra in Thief River Falls under the direction of Derek Druse. I was selected for a second year to the MMEA All-State Orchestra and recently had the honor to participate in a side-by-side rehearsal with the Minnesota Orchestra and Principal Bassist Kristen Bruya and Acting Associate Principal Kathryn Nettleman. I have also been selected to perform with the NAFME All-National Honor Ensemble in Nashville, TN, where we will perform at the Grand Ole Opry. My performance schedule is growing as I am a member of the Fargo-Moorhead Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Christopher Zimmerman. Recently I performed the Trout Quintet with University of North Dakota faculty and friends, Dr. Nariaki Saguira (piano), Dr. Adrian Demian (violin), Dr. Gerald Gaul (viola), and Dr. Simona Barbu (cello), I also perform regularly with my siblings, playing in ensembles and solo bass. We play everything from Brianna and Brett's arrangements of church hymns, to Brianna's compositions, to Koussevitsky and Bottesini.

Brayden Drevlow, 2013 Featured Artist, Piano

Age: 19

Homewtown: Thief River Falls, Minn.

Attends: Concordia College, Moorhead, Minn.

I have been actively performing with symphony orchestras and teaching myself more instruments (including the viola and organ). I also continue my work as a church organist at 3 local churches and have grown my piano studio to nearly 20 students. I am a Freshman at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota studying Piano Performance (with the help of the MPR Featured Round Scholarship!) with Dr. Jay Hershberger. I also play violin in Concordia College Symphonia under the direction of Jane Capistran. I was recently selected as a GE/Ronald Reagan Presidential Scholar. Through this remarkable opportunity, I was invited to attend a Leadership Summit at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, CA. While at the Presidential Library, I was granted a unique opportunity to perform a concert on a 9-foot Steinway Grand Piano given to Ronald Reagan by Roger Williams! I became the third person to ever perform on the beautiful instrument, following only Roger Williams and Merv Griffin! I also will perform with the Greater Grand Forks Symphony Orchestra in March 2016. Of course, none of these remarkable musical opportunities would have happened without the extremely valuable experience I gained as a professionally recorded and broadcast artist on Minnesota Public Radio.

Brett Drevlow, 2011 Featured Artist, Piano

Age: 20

Homewtown: Thief River Falls, Minn.

Attends: Concordia College, Moorhead, Minn.

I am a bassist and member of the Concordia College Orchestra under the direction of Foster Byers while studying bass with Dr. Gregory Hamilton. I play regularly with area symphony orchestras and my band, The 60/40. I am majoring in Environmental Science with a minor in Bass Performance. I teach bass lessons and collaborate with many of Concordia College's phenomenal music students. Flash update- I became engaged this summer to fellow Concordia classmate, Jennifer Keibler. Together, Jenny and I are very involved in the music/worship programs at our church.
