John Kuntz from Eagan, Minn. was a Minnesota Varsity 2015 Showcase Composer. He recently got in touch with Classical MPR's Christine Sweet to share his latest news.
John Kuntz, 2015 Showcase Composer
Age: 19
Hometown: Eagan, Minn.
Attends: Luther College, Decorah, Iowa
After my experience with Minnesota Varsity, I have become more confident in my composing and feel well-equipped for future compositions because of the knowledge that I gained from this experience. There is no bigger honor than working with real, professional musicians. Their advice has helped shape my musicality and, as a young composer, such great advice makes a large impact. As for my current life, I attend Luther College and plan to major in music with an emphasis in composition. I am studying alto saxophone under the instruction of Dr. Lynne Postudensek Hart, play in Varsity Band, and sing in the all-men's choir, Norsemen. My very ambitious long term goals include pursuing composition and applying to grad school for film scoring. I want to immerse myself in music, collaborate with other composers, and one day make composing my profession.
