Age: 19

Hometown: Rochester, Minn.

Attends: U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y.

I finished my Cadet Basic Training (Beast Barracks) over the summer. Following 6 weeks of grueling military training, I participated in the Acceptance Day Parade where I was officially accepted to the United States Military Academy as a member of the United States Corps of Cadets. Since I recently came to West Point, my life has obviously changed dramatically. I have strict regulations that I have to abide by as a plebe and fourth class cadet. Not being able to talk outside and cupping my hands at all times, my life has become a lot more regimented, with early morning wake-ups, drill practice, physical training, formations, plebe duties, and my academic classes. Although most of my lifestyle has changed, I do hope to continue to play the violin, and I am currently a member of USMA's String Club.

I hope, on graduating from USMA in the class of 2019 with a major in the life sciences, to go to medical school. Following medical school, I plan on serving my 13 year commitment to the Army.

I loved Minnesota Varsity because it took my musical career outside of just my town. I had been a part of the musical community on a local scale, but Minnesota Varsity allowed me to grow outside of my city and broaden my scope to a state-wide scale.

My favorite memory was being able to explore the MPR facility. I grew up listening to MPR. Whether it was "Wait, Wait Don't Tell Me" on the weekends, Classical MPR while doing homework, or 89.3 The Current on the way to school, I was a huge fan of MPR, and being able to go up to the studios was an amazing experience.
