Rachel is off this week, but we have a very special guest on Moveable Feast -- Christopher Kimball, of Cook's Illustrated Magazine and the television show America's Test Kitchen. The famous chef sits down with John Birge for a sneak preview of his upcoming visit to the Pantages Theater, and reveals the joys (and occasional perils) of a live cooking show.
The TV version of America's Test Kitchen uses a kitchen that covers about 2500 square feet. Obviously it would have been difficult to transfer the entire set to the Pantages, so one of the things we asked Christopher was what exactly will be set up on stage?
"We try to give people an insider's tour of the kitchen, using a lot of video and audio and photographs. Then on stage, I bring Dan (one of my editors, the science guy). He blows up a gluten balloon, and does a bunch of tests. The gluten balloon is very popular, and some lucky person gets to go home with a gluten balloon!
Then we do a quiz, and we have people taste chocolates, and do some other things. That's the surprise — it's not the cooking, it's the people."
Christopher Kimball takes the stage of the Pantages Theater in Minneapolis on Nov. 4th and 5th to host "America's Test Kitchen Live."
