Alexandra Sophocleus from Minneapolis was a Minnesota Varsity 2013 Showcase Artist with Luna String Quartet. She recently got in touch with Classical MPR's Christine Sweet to share her latest news.

Since my quartet participated in Minnesota Varsity, I have continued to study music intensely. I managed to survive a crazy year of music school auditions, and am currently in my second year at Oberlin Conservatory, studying viola performance. Chamber music is still a huge part of my life, and the Luna ladies (Anna Humphrey, Emma Richman, Nora Doyle and I) meet up whenever we're all in Minnesota to play more music together. Being a part of Minnesota Varsity is one of my fondest memories from high school. My quartet mates and I had such a great time sharing the music we love with the listeners of Classical MPR. I think what makes Varsity such a great event is that it is a lot more than a competition. Minnesota Varsity brings a lot of communities together. So many of my peers from different aspects of my life such as family, high school classmates, and friends from orchestra got involved in voting, and many of them even came to the concert! Minnesota Varsity is a great event for getting all types of people excited about classical music.
