Dueling symphony orchestras as World Series begins

On the heels of last week’s book-spine smackdown between public libraries in Toronto and Kansas City over the baseball playoffs, we now turn to the musical portion of baseball’s postseason "trash talk."

Last year, the Kansas City Symphony, declared its support for the Royals in the World Series, while also scheduling two of its concerts for times when the baseball games would be on TV.

At least for Monday's game one, that was not a problem.

And the Symphony and conductor Michael Stern are a little more cocky this year, challenging the New York Philharmonic to a musical bet.

In the waning days of a baseball season, "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" can bring tears to a fan's eye.
