Moveable Feast: Chicago

Moveable Feast: Chicago

Traveling with kids is not always the easiest, but MEA weekend is an opportune time for a fall family trip.

We talked about taking kids to Wisconsin Dells on the train a while ago, which is a more comfortable and more entertaining way for kids to travel. If your kids are a little older, taking the train to Chicago is another option.

A writer for Minnesota Monthly took her kids there for an article in MnMo's Summer Travel Guide and found it was much more family friendly than she anticipated. They took public transit and hit up places like Navy Pier, the Museum of Science and Industry, Shedd Aquarium, and Willis Tower (formerly the Sears Tower).

They also really liked Millennial Park, home of the shiny silver bean — it may seem a bit cheesy going on photos alone, but experiencing it in person gives you a different perspective. It's a fantastic piece of public art, with a gorgeous skyline reflection. It's fun to interact, walk around, and see goofy reflections of yourself.

And for food, what do kids love more than deep-dish pizza! I recommend Exchequer on Wabash. There's also the Giordano's chain — and if you're not in Chicago you can find a new location in Uptown Minneapolis!
