Gaosong V. Heu is an up-and-coming Hmong-American performing artist who bridges the gap between western classical music and Hmong classical and traditional music. Trained as a singer in both the Western and Hmong traditions, she also studies the qeej, a Hmong bamboo reed instrument. She will combine music and storytelling at a variety of schools across the Twin Cities metro.
I'm really excited to bridge the gap between western classical music and traditional Hmong music so that we can serve this diverse group of people that we have in Minnesota. Music transcends cultures, ages, backgrounds and geographical locations, and hopefully it will teach students that although different groups of people from different places may practice music differently, ultimately we are all connected and our differences are actually very beautiful. But the only way that this is possible at all is if we are active in the outreach and in supporting programs such as this Class Notes Artist program.
