Music education can be challenging: most schools do not have the budget to bring in live musicians or to take their students to a performance; most students have never or rarely seen a live musical performance; and many music programs across the state have experienced cuts in classroom time and budget.
That's where Classical MPR's Class Notes Artists can help. Class Notes Artists are professional musicians who visit elementary schools not only to perform — but to talk about music, composers, and instruments as well.
The Artist visits aren't just one-off diversions. Classical MPR and the Class Notes Artists collaborate to create curriculum that reflects the performance content and supports the Minnesota standards for arts education; this is provided for music teachers in advance of the Artist visit. And the experience of the live performance can be extended to the classroom, as well as to the children's homes — all of the schoolchildren receive access to a compilation album of the year's Artists.
Class Notes Artists is completely free for schools. The goal of the program is to create authentic and transformative experiences for young students, inspiring creativity and contributing to what they're already learning from their music teachers.
You can hear recordings from the 2015-16 Class Notes Artists 'Voyages' collection in our Audio Backpack.
The following Class Notes Artists will be performing in schools throughout Minnesota during the 2015-2016 academic year.
