How cellist Peter Wiley does it all

Peter Wiley interview

Peter Wiley makes gorgeous music. He's a cellist who has done it all in his career. He's had the honor of attending The Curtis Institute (at age 13) and held down an orchestra principal gig — Cincinnati Symphony — two chamber music gigs — Beaux Arts Trio and The Guarneri Quartet — and he's even taught at the very best schools including The Curtis Institute. When he was here in town to perform with the Chamber Music Society of Minnesota, he popped in between gigs to talk shop and spin a few of his favorite discs.

Peter Wiley's picks:

Beethoven "Triple" Concerto in C Major, II: Largo, which begins with a glorious cello solo from Beaux Arts Trio recording with Kurt Masur and the Gewandhaus Orchestra

Ernst von Dohnanyi's String quartet no. 2 in D-flat major Op. 15, II: Presto acciacato, from the Guarneri String Quartet (a recording which received a Grammy nomination)

Hear Peter Wiley this Sunday, April 3, at 4 p.m. at Sundin Hall, performing Zoltan Kodály's Duo for violin and cello, Johannes Brahms' String Sextet in G major, and Joseph Haydn's String Trio in G major.
