Every weekday at 10 a.m., the hosts at Classical MPR play a standout work based on the theme for the week. We call these works Morning Glories.
Let's celebrate summer by looking at five Morning Glories from summer festivals around the country. And while you're at it, visit the special section on our website for a map of festivals taking place right in our area.
Monday
Music @ Menlo: From this festival in California's Bay Area, we'll hear the piano trio by Ravel. Happy Bastille Day!
Tuesday
Pine Mountain Music Festival: The Bergonzi Quartet gave this performance of Mozart's "Dissonant" Quartet in Houghton, Mich., in 2008. They'll return to the Upper Peninsula for this year's festival, which begins this week.
Wednesday
Tanglewood Festival: A historic performance from the Boston Symphony Orchestra's summer festival: Leonard Bernstein's final concert, with Britten's Sea Interludes from "Peter Grimes."
Thursday
Marlboro Music Festival: This historic New England festival traditionally centers around the masterworks of the chamber music repertoire, such as Beethoven's "Archduke" Trio.
Friday
Minnesota Orchestra Sommerfest: Hear Leonard Slatkin conduct the Orchestra in Mozart's "Eine kleine Nachtmusik" — and tune in at 8 tonight for a live Sommerfest broadcast.
