Every weekday at 10 a.m., the hosts at Classical MPR play a standout work based on the theme for the week. We call these works Morning Glories.

We'll wind up our Music for Learning month with music written for schools — ranging from European schools with centuries of history, to a school much closer to home.

Monday

Brahms: Academic Festival Overture
Brahms wrote his overture upon receiving an honorary degree from the University of Breslau (now Wroclaw in Poland).

Tuesday

Vaughan Williams: Charterhouse Suite
Charterhouse is a "public school" (i.e. private school) in England — Vaughan Williams is just one of its famous alumni.

Wednesday

Piston: Symphony No. 4
This symphony by Walter Piston honors the centennial of the University of Minnesota. Hats off to thee!

Thursday

Vivaldi: Gloria
The Ospedale della Pieta in Venice was a combination of charitable institution and music school for young women. Vivaldi was its resident music director and composer.

Friday

Holst: St. Paul's Suite
St. Paul's Girls' School is located in the Brook Green neighborhood of London. Holst also wrote the "Brook Green" Suite for its students.
