Laura Vosika began her musical life as a trombonist and fell in love with the Russian orchestral music that featured her chosen instrument. The trombone still plays a big part in her life as a writer. Vosika is completing a series of historical novels that feature a contemporary character, Shawn Kleiner, a virtuoso trombonist and ladies man, with Shawn's twin who happens to live in 14th-century Scotland. Let the story begin!

Mussorgsky: Night on Bald Mountain (excerpt) Philadelphia Orchestra with conductor Riccardo Muti. Philips 432 170

Traditional: Blue Bells of Scotland (arrangement for solo trombone by Arthur Pryor) with Larry Zalkind, trombone. Summit 359

Pachelbel: Canon (arrangement for solo harp by the performer) Yolanda Kondonassis, harp. Telarc 80403

Tchaikovsky: 1812 Overture (excerpt) Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra with conductor Antal Dorati. Mercury 416 448

Next week: Joe Chvala is the director of Flying Foot Forum. A director and dancer, Joe's playlist is filled with the choral and vocal works that inspire his unique dance creations.
