It boasted the biggest budget Hollywood had seen as of 1963. It had lavish sets, it paid the first million dollar salary to its leading lady and it set records for her 65 costume changes.

But perhaps this film made the biggest headlines for the scandalous love affair between Elizabeth Taylor and her leading man, Richard Burton.
