Every weekday morning at 10 a.m., the hosts at Classical MPR play a stand-out work based on the theme for the week. We call them Morning Glories.

For Morning Glories this week, we'll wrap-up the month of March — which is Women's History Month — with the music of five women composers.

Monday

Ethel Smyth: Serenade

Not only a musician, Dame Ethel Smyth was a fighter for women's rights and a writer whose memoirs make lively reading even today.

Tuesday

Fanny Mendelssohn: String Quartet

We'll hear a new recording of this quartet by Felix Mendelssohn's gifted sister.

Wednesday

Germaine Tailleferre: Concertino

Tailleferre is the one woman in the group known as "The Six," celebrated as the leaders of Parisian modernism in the 1920s.

Thursday

Peggy Glanville-Hicks: Etruscan Concerto

The Australian composer Peggy Glanville-Hicks lived from 12 to 1990, and wrote this concerto in 1956.

Friday

Clara Schumann: Piano Concerto

Our trio of works for piano and orchestra concludes with the concerto by Clara Schumann, one of the 19th century's great pianists.
