Music with Minnesotans: William Foot

Music with Minnesotans: William Foot
William Foot
William Foot has been singing all his life in choruses and on stage too, including playing Captain von Trapp and Tevye in Red Wing.
William Foot

When Bill Foot arrived on the fourth floor of MPR, he took me to a window to point out a building on Minnesota Street where his grandfather started a shoe factory. Bill now works as the manager of IT support at Red Wing Shoes - and yes, his name is a 'perfect fit.'

Groan.

Bill is a part-time singer. And he's sung in some terrific ensembles and in really cool spaces - with the Minnesota Chorale and the Red Wing madrigal Singers, a group that performed with Garrison on Prairie Home, but also in college ensembles singing unusual literature that took him to the stage of Carnegie Hall.

In fact Bill brought a stack of programs to his Music with Minnesotans chat to share. Clearly proud of those days.

The result for us, though, is an unusual playlist of music we don't listen to often on Classical-MPR. Including movements from Prokofiev's "Alexander Nevsky" and Vaughan-Williams "Dona Nobis Pacem."

Bill keeps up his piano too and particularly loves playing piano four hands. It's chance to really get to know your partner well and find how much personal space you can live without!

Bill loves listening to classical - it enriches his life - but being it and making music is his greatest joy.

And mine is the chance to hear some new music he shared today!

Next week, hypnotist Daniel Andersen joins me. When he was a teenager, a friend invited him to her house deep in the woods. When he arrived, he was welcomed by a piece being hammered away on the piano that just stopped him in his tracks. Ever since, he's been a classical music addict.
