Music with Minnesotans: Chris Polydoroff
Chris Polydoroff
Pioneer Press Photographer Chris Polydoroff is drawn to music that helps him get out of the intellectual realm and closer to the more 'feeling' world. Escaping with classical music allows him to feel the joy needed to be at his most creative.

The first time I met Chris Polydoroff, he interviewed me for a video he was shooting on those of us crazy enough to bike commute in any weather. It was a lovely day and I was in short sleeves, but still had my hairstyle destroying helmet with flashing lights, my bright orange vest and my trousers rolled up to reveal pink socks. I was dressed to ride, not to win a fashion contest.

Chris gamely taped me riding down John Ireland towards MPR from the back of his SUV - I think I cancelled out at least some of his carbon footprint - and we had a lot of laughs that, by his account, led to a successful feature.

Chris and I remained friends and he listens to classical music, so I thought it was time for this photographer - who shoots both the mundane news-story photos as well as breath-taking and beguiling art images - to share his playlist.

We spoke about a month ago, so his playlist may be slightly tempered by our never ending snowy and cold winter, but - like his images - the pieces are ones that will make you stop what you're doing and just listen.

Chris tells me he's drawn to music that helps him get out of the intellectual realm and closer to the more 'feeling' world. Escaping with classical music allows him to feel the joy needed to be at his most creative.

Just the other day, Chris sent me a quote that seems to capture the kind of music - and art - he loves.

"Perfection is reached not when there is nothing left to add, but when there is nothing left to take away." -Antoine de Saint-Exupery.
