Paul Hindemith's Viola Concerto, "Der Schwanendreher" (The Swan Turner), is a gutsy sounding work that utilizes all the instrumental colors that a fine violist can make.

Natalie Alper-Leroux is a 10th grader and already a fine player on one of the most overlooked instruments in the string family. Natalie won the Minnesota Youth Symphonies Solo Competition and will perform the opening movement of Der Schwanendreher with her young colleagues this Sunday February 7 at Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis.

She and Minnesota Youth Symphonies co-director Manny Laureano joined Steve Staruch at the Maud Moon Weyerhauerser Studio for a friendly bit of music making and conversation.
