As birthdays go this is a big one. Former Artistic Partner of the SPCO, Nicholas McGegan, turns 60 today! With typical graciousness and that infectious smiling demeanor of his, McGegan confirmed that January 14th, 2010 was indeed the big day with this email:
"You're absolutely right that I will hit the first 's' word on Thursday in Seattle. As far as I know there will be a party with friends from the orchestra. Nothing dramatic. The AARP already got me ten years ago. In the UK I am now entitled to a free bus pass and probable a cane and ear-trumpet. I will however be celebrating in what for me is the very best way: making music with terrific musicians. Who could ask for anything more?"
To honor McGegan on his birthday Classical MPR features his performance of the Orchestral Suite No. 1 by JS Bach from a 2008 concert performance with the SPCO in Thursday afternoon's Regional Spotlight.
