Click on Classical: Changes in Berlin, a report from Megapolis, and an essay by Ward Jacobson

Every Monday morning at 9:15, I join John Birge on Classical MPR to discuss stories we're featuring on our website. Here's what we'll be talking about today.

News has just broken that the Berlin Philharmonic has selected Russian conductor Kirill Petrenko to succeed Simon Rattle as chief conductor. In an essay published last week, Terry Blain wrote about why this is a critical transition for what is often regarded as the world's top orchestra.

Garrett Tiedemann recently attended the Megapolis Audio Festival: a showcase of musical experimentation. In a report from the San Francisco festival on YourClassical, Garrett writes about video game controllers being used as musical instruments and CD cases being crafted into light Theremins.

Ward Jacobson, whose voice will be familiar to our longtime listeners, shared an essay about growing up on a Nebraska farm with a father who loved classical music and who would "air conduct" on his tractor.
